J.K. Symancyk joined PetSmart as CEO in June 2018 and became a member of the company’s board of directors. J.K. is a consumer retail veteran with more than 25 years of industry experience managing complex retail operations, including his previous role as CEO of Academy Sports + Outdoors. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated his ability to lead companies, driving profitable growth and improving the organizational performance of internal teams at large, multi-channel consumer businesses. Previously, J.K. served as president of Meijer, where he was responsible for leading all aspects of the retailer. He also held management positions at Wal-Mart Stores, including Sam’s Club and Wal-Mart International.
J.K. graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. He and his wife have two children and are pet parents to two dogs: Sammy, a Lhasa/Bichon mix, and Stella, a Havanese.

rian Amkraut, EVP of Store Operations, Services, Supply Chain and Real Estate, joined PetSmart in 2015. Prior to PetSmart, Brian most recently served as senior vice president of Merchandise Distribution and Planning for Payless Holdings. He also held several senior-level positions with the company between 2007 and 2014, including division senior vice president of Store Development. Earlier in his career, Brian served in strategy roles for CVS Health and the Boston Consulting Group.
Brian graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. Additionally, he received his Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago, Booth School of Business. He resides in Scottsdale, Arizona with his wife and two children. They are pet parents to an Australian Kelpie rescue, Ralph.
